From the Committee – Feb 2025
2024 has been a busy year! Worldwide, we have seen lots of opinions, information, hopes and concerns concerning our planet’s climate. We have been looking at advocating at a grassroot level, acknowledging the big challenges at the scope of the state or the country, but focusing on what really matters at the scale of the Hills.
The AGM was held at the Kalamunda Hotel, where guest speakers Kevin Mack of Sustainable Baywater and Alan of Electrify Everything spoke about how to reduce emissions and gain financial benefit through the electrification of households. This looks promising for our future.
We are sad to report that Basil Lambert, a valued committee member, passed away on January 30th after a lengthy battle with cancer. Bas had been a committee member for two years and contributed to our group’s planning, media articles and research on climate issues. Bas had worked in the not-for-profit sector for most of his life and was passionate about climate and community issues. We will miss his input and extend our condolences to his partner Lynda and family.
Ailsa Paterson, one of our founding committee members, stepped down from her position of secretary. She was a drive for the group, and a convincing advocate for our cause. She remains in contact with us for her precious advice.
We have recruited one new committee member, Rachel Davison, who raised her hand for the position of Secretary. Finn takes the role of Chair, Lynda is the new Deputy Chair, and Denise remains the treasurer. Tanya remains an ordinary committee member and newsletter editor.
PHCCIG continue to collaborate and work with other local and national climate change and environmental organisations such as ACF, CCWA, NRPG, Forrest Alliance, CANA and many others.
In this year 2025, we aim for a few general objectives:
- reaching a wider audience with our articles
- team up with other climate conscious groups in the hills
- organise a climate event
- advocate for local actions on local matters
