The Climate Change Authority recently called for submissions about Setting, tracking and achieving Australia’s emissions reduction targets.
In response, PHCCIG put in a brief submission calling for the Authority to consider and press for:
- A minimum target of a 75% reduction in Greenhouse Gas emissions by 2035 particularly with respect to Australia’s next Nationally Determined Contribution under the Paris Agreement
- A cessation of new coal and gas projects;
- Sector by sector roadmaps to practically achieve emission reduction targets; and
- As a matter of matter urgency, measure and regulate venting of methane.
PHCCIG was also party to a Climate Action Network Australia’s community group’s submission.
