What an amazing October. Three big events… Perth Hills people really are such an inspiration!
Mr Nolan Hunter, Head of Engagement, Uluru Dialogue gave a solid presentation on the 8th October at the Perth Discovery Centre in Mundaring about valuing Indigenous people’s contributions to biodiversity, environment, a safe climate, and the importance of the Uluru Statement from the Heart.
Thanks to Cathy Levett, and volunteer, Brett Rosser (and his lovely dog), who engaged in climate and environment conversations and activities with adults and young people at the PHCCIG and Millennium Kids Kalamunda Forest Festival stall, with some interesting and hopeful findings.

At the Perth Hills Climate Change Interest Group’s Annual General Meeting held on the 23rd October, the Annual Report was tabled. The first guest speaker, Dr Hugh Finn, gave what would have to be one of the best speeches ever about what a WA Climate Act would need to incorporate, if it’s to be effective. Sophia Healdgrove, from Millennium Kids (as an Agent for Change guest speaker), gave an excellent presentation about her local and overseas experiences of waste disposal and recycling – the German examples she gave rather put WA supermarkets and our local waste disposal systems to shame!
The effort made by Ailsa Paterson, Jen Griffiths, Cathy Levett, Michael Hoy, Stephan Millett, Denise Sweetman, and earlier in the year, the wonderful Patrick Crichton, the Committee members, over the past 12 months has been outstanding. To Stephan and Jen, who stepped down just prior to the AGM, may the success of your contributions glow in your hearts brightly now and into the future.
And here’s a big welcome to the three new committee members – Mike Burbridge, Lynda Winter and Basil Lambert. Here’s to another wonderful year, and more wins for climate action in the Perth Hills!
