OK, you’ve joined Perth Hills Climate Change Interest Group. What’s next? How do I take any actual… action, you ask? Check out these ideas and feel free to contact us with questions and suggestions.
Apart from having quiet, respectful conversations with friends, family and colleagues on the need for urgent action, you can also talk with people about how far we’ve come just in the last 10 years. It might not feel like it in Australia, but globally things are looking a lot more promising than they were. You might also enjoy being on one of our stalls at a community event, along with an experienced member.
You can also post items that support action on climate on all your social media platforms. Items with your own lead in comments and an invitation to readers to comment, usually work best. And please contact@phccig.org to send us items that you think could go on our Facebook and other social media sites. And you might also like to help our website team add resources or information to our site. Your feedback and direct assistance is welcome.
Come along with some more experienced members of PHCCIG to a meeting with a Councillor or MP. You can be an observer for the first one or two meetings, until you feel comfortable. PHCCIG will be arranging training for members in how to meet with political leaders, later this year.
And last, but definitely not least, think about where your money is going: is your super fund investing in fossil fuel production, for example? If so, tell them you’re unhappy and take your money elsewhere. Depriving these polluting energy companies of their social licence is a great lever to pull!
