Article 2 What’s coming up in the world: COP29 UN Climate Summit 11 – 22 November 2024
It is that time of year again, when the Conference of Parties (COP) meet – this time in Baku, Azerbaijan Money will be the most important focus of this year’s climate talks. Wealthy nations previously pledged they would deliver $100bn a year in climate finance, from 2020, to support poorer developing nations to cut emissions and adapt to climate change.
Article 3
The little known policy that could be a climate game-changer
Australian companies will soon be subject to a new mandatory climate reporting regime. It could help heap pressure on big emitters to implement credible climate change plans. (from Michael Mazengarb at Tempests and Terawatts, Aug 26, 2024).
Article 4
Every year the International Energy Agency (IEA) releases its flagship World Energy Outlook (WEO), outlining the biggest trends in energy demand and supply, and what they mean for energy security, emissions and economic development. This year’s WEO shows that record growth in renewable energy is keeping the window to stay below 1.5°C open, but it will close quickly if governments don’t put clear fossil fuel transition plans in place now.
Article 5
Getting rid of dark roofs – it’s a ‘no brainer’
If you’ve got a dark roof, you’re spending almost $700 extra a year to keep your house cool. We could make our hot cities cooler with white roofs and light roads. But progress has been glacially slow.
The PHCCIG committee continues to work hard to advance action on climate change. We are currently working with a much smaller committee, as founding members have taken much needed (short and long) leave. We are in the process of trying to attract new members and to amalgamate with organisations with similar values to increase our influence when advocating for climate change and environmental issues.
