It’s noted in the Shire of Mundaring’s recently released annual report that climate change issues were at the forefront of Council’s agenda.

What great news!

Mitigation

The Shire implemented several initiatives to reduce its energy use and greenhouse gas emissions, including upgrades to facilities. It:

  • Converted indoor sports halls lighting to LED at Brown Park Community Centre ($19,500).
  • Converted lighting to LED on Darlington tennis court ($33,000).
  • Supported the purchase and installation of pool blankets by the Mt Helena Swimming Club at Mt Helena Aquatic Centre.
  • Installed LED lights in all light fittings at Lake Leschenaultia.
  • Joined 50 WA local governments for a ‘bulk buy’ of renewable energy for high electricity use facilities in March 2022.
  • Planned a LED lighting retrofit in the Shire’s Administration building.
  • Planned additional solar and battery storage at Mundaring Arena
  • Undertook planning to install solar panels at the Lake Leschenaultia
Kiosk, Darlington Volunteer Bush Fire Brigade and Bilgoman Aquatic Centre.
  • Upgraded the solar collector for the hot water heating system at Mt Helena Aquatic Centre

Adaptation

The Shire’s climate adaptation measures included the Seedlings for Landcare program and it’s great environment and sustainability newsletter – Six Seasons.
